card fav

Still making my hand painted cards. I love coming up with new designs. Though not realistic in terms of revenue, it’d be heavenly if I could make these all day.

I always forget how much the summer takes over my world. But I miss you guys so thought I’d post some doodles from my grocery list yesterday.

Kisses. Be back soon.

Some of my favorite things to do professionally are side jobs. I love making my greeting cards and selling them at our local CoOp. I love helping to restore a local sculpture that was vandalized, I loved being a sumer camp art teacher, I love…hey wait, maybe my profession is just a string of side jobs. Fun!

I have a friend who is a professional house painter. His business is called Thomas Aquinas Painting. Yesterday my side job was to  paint the men that he uses as his yard signs when he is working on a property.

Starting by sketching out the beautiful freshly primed plywood silhouettes.

Adding more detail on the hands than I had in times past.

All freshened up and ready to get to work.

Love my side jobs.

This week I will be working with Environmental artist Stacy Levy as an installer on her latest piece. Below is a rendition of what it will look like when complete.

stacy meander

It will be on Swarthmore College campus, conveniently only 1 mile from my house…inconveniently outside -rain or shine- during a weather week predicted to be brutally cold. You can check out her work on her website, really cool stuff. Wish me luck!

So these pet portraits that have swooped in and taken over my life in many wonderful ways, have also taken a bit of a toll on my eyes.  Doing the fine detailed work like in this portrait I just finished of a darling Pit Bull, Cinnamon, really starts to bug my eyes out.

Cinnamon

So today, though I started to work on the ever expanding list of pet portraits, I ended up spending most of my day on this much larger and easier on the eyes painting…

and changed it completely.

ameoba

I was liking the Keith Haring amoeba look it had going on but after writing this post and looking at it again…blood shot eye, don’t you think? Crap.

So here is what has been going on as of late and I’ll just go ahead and cram it all in here as best as I can.

I’ve been working on my collage piece and all the technical aspects of working with adhesives and printer ink without smudging and buckling.

With all the gorgeous weather in place, I spruced up my deck in anticipation of an upcoming bridal shower for my sweet new sister-in-law.

More men.

Summer is waning and so a family field trip was in order. Went to nearby Fort Mifflin known not only for it’s history but also it’s hauntings.  (Little known fact, I’m a tad obsessed with the paranormal and little known show called Ghost Hunters on Sifi which is how I found out about Fort Mifflin in the first place.) Trippy trip.

We started hanging the advertising for the next SFOA group show. Locals, send in your entry form by the 23rd and then get your asses to Borough Hall with your submissions on Monday September 30th. It’ll be a fun wine opening with art too!

My attempt at a photo for the show. Who knows what I’ll end up submitting, but I do find this photo intriguing.

Though all the chillaxing has been nice, I’m pretty happy that the summer time suck effect is wearing off and I am getting back to business. Great catching up, phew! Stay tuned, more soon!
